Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 lbs. lean ground beef
  • 4 garlic cloves, finely minced
  • 1 tbsp. dried oregano
  • 2 tsp. dried basil
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan (4 oz.)
  • 1 1/2 cups jarred marinara sauce, divided
  • 3 tbsp. olive oil
  • 4 ciabatta rolls or other sandwich rolls, split and toasted
  • 4 (1-oz.) slices fresh or deli-sliced mozzarella
  • Fresh basil leaves

  1. In a large bowl combine beef, garlic, oregano, dried basil, Parmesan and 1/2 cup of the marinara. Mix lightly; shape into four patties 3/4-inch thick.
  2. Heat oil in a large heavy skillet or grill pan. Add patties; cook 15 minutes (160°F) or to desired doneness, turning once.
  3. Meanwhile, place a small saucepan over medium heat. Add remaining 1 cup marinara and heat until warm.
  4. Place 1 patty on each toasted roll; top with sauce, 1 mozzarella slice and fresh basil. Serve immediately.
