- Preheat oven to 350°F. Coat a 1 1/2-quart baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. For sauce, in a medium saucepan cook apple in butter until tender. Stir in flour and pepper. Add broth and milk; bring to boiling, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Stir in cheese, a little at a time; stir until cheese melts.
- Layer half the potatoes in baking dish. Top with half the sauce. Layer again with remaining potatoes and sauce.
- Bake, covered, 40 minutes. Uncover and bake 30 to 35 minutes more or until potatoes are tender.
