St. Louis Style Barbecue Sauce

Thinner and a more tangy flavor than its Kansas City cousin, St. Louis style BBQ has many influences. Try this one on your next tour of BBQ flavors!

  • 2 cups Ketchup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  1. Combine all ingredients in a saucepan over a low heat. Stirring occasionally and simmer for 20 minutes.
  2. Sauce should be thin, but not watery. Allow to cool. Store in an airtight container and refrigerate.
  3. Sauce is better if allow to sit for a day. Sauce can be stored in refrigerator for up to one week after preparation or 3-4 months in freezer.
